30 Tips for The New Year You Want to Remember

With 2016 just around the corner, everyone is starting to look forward to what they can accomplish in the new year. Though it's great to have new resolutions written down and ready to tackle, it's also important to keep certain notes in mind. Here are 30 reminders to recall throughout the year.


1. Pinpoint your Path

Realizing what it is you want to do in life is the first step to creating your legacy. The sooner you figure it out, the faster it will all start coming into place. Don't settle for a path well traveled. Create your own path! These people created their own path and look how well it turned out for them.

2. Embrace Change

Don't be afraid of change. Change is inevitable and is oftentimes for the better. If you shy away from it, life might be more of a challenge and you inhibit your inner growth as a person.

3. Be humble and kind


Humility and kindness never hurt anyone. It's important to stay grounded.

4. Don't take anything for granted

You are lucky to have the life that you have. There are so many people suffering in the world that we oftentimes forget that we are blessed to be where we are now.

5. Own your mistakes

Don't be ashamed of the mistakes you have made. Mistakes are what you do once, habits are repeating it over and over.  By owning your mistakes, you prevent it from turning into a habit and acknowledge that you are human and have room for growth.

6. Treat your body right

Your body is your temple and you only have one. Your body is also where your soul lies. Treating your body right benefits your mind and spirit.

7. Laugh more


Laughter is the best medicine. You can never have enough of it.

8. What you have does not define who you are

Material items may bring your happiness for a moment but they do not define who you are. It's what you do with what you have that defines who you are. How do you want to be remembered?

9. Loyalty

Stay true and loyal to those around you and yourself. Do not budge for anyone or anything that doesn't fit with your philosophy.

10. Words are powerful


Words are powerful. They can create worlds, commit you to another, and even have the strength to make someone feel little. Choose your words wisely and do not throw them around lightly.

11. Keep learning

There is no such thing as being over-educated. If you've always wanted to take up another language or learn how to cook, go for it! Nothing is sexier than someone who has a hunger for knowledge.

12. Eating breakfast foods for dinner is OK

Ain't no shame in eating cereal and pancakes for dinner! Don't let yourself feel bad and just enjoy it!

13. Get out of your comfort zone

You might be surprised at what you can do/what you can accomplish when you step out of what you know.  You might just find something you didnt know you would enjoy and be enlightened by!

14. Live somewhere new


Get out of the town you grew up in and live somewhere completely unfamiliar. If that is too much of a change, then just live somewhere temporarily, like on vacation. Your surroundings shape the way you think and the perspectives you have. 

15. Have an opinion

Don't be afraid to say what's on your mind. Engage in friendly debates. Then, try to be open minded when you get anothers views.

16. Accept criticism

Don't be offended if someone gives you some criticism. Just take a breath and remember that this can benefit you. But make sure you can tell the difference between constructive criticism and straight insult. Do not let anyone insult you.

17. Pride isn't a sin

Being proud of yourself and your accomplishments isn't something to be ashamed of. Hiding our pride can lead to low self-esteem. It's time to start being proud of ourselves.

18. Live within your means


Don't try to live like the celebrities or others around you. Being able to live with what you have and being able to manage your finances is what is important. It's ok to indulge but make sure you can afford to do it before making a hasty decision. 

19. Learn from someone older

Have a heart to heart with your parents and grandparents. They have been on this Earth longer than you have and will have so many experiences to share with you. You can even make time to speak with someone older at work and learn from what they tell you.

20. Honesty is the best policy

Always be honest. Nothing good has ever come from keeping the truth from others.

21. Give your time 

Giving your time to someone is the best gift there is. Being good company and spending quality time with someone is what we all crave. 

22. Work hard

It takes hard work to get to where you want to be. Success isn't just handed to people. You have to work at it every day and make sacrifices. 

23. Take a day off


Though it is important to work towards your goal, you also have to remember to not burn yourself out. If you are mentally exhausted, you can't produce your best work. Take a day off of work and have a breather. It's ok to relax every once and awhile. 

24. Smile more

A smile can brighten up your day and those around you. Just remember to be happy and stay positive. Tough times will pass. 

25. You are the company you keep

Make sure to surround yourself with people that make you happy and push you to become better. If the friends you have now only bring you grief and anxiety, it may be time to walk away. 

26. Keep a journal


Writing down how your day went or just random thoughts you've had throughout the day is an amazing way to clear your mind. Having a place where you can keep all your ramblings and thoughts can feel like you're taking a weight off your shoulders. 

27. Escape into art

Whether it be going to a museum or taking up an art class, immerse yourself in some creativity. It's a great way to distress and forget about all of your problems.

28. Tell your loved ones you love them every day

You can never tell someone "I Love You" enough. Be sure to do it every day. You won't regret it.

29. Get outside more


There's a whole world outside of our computer screens and offices. Get outside and enjoy the outdoors! It's amazing how nature can heal your mind, body, and soul.

30. You'll never be as young as you are now

Do something you've always wanted to do. You don't want to wake up one day and realize that you're now 100 years old and can't go skydiving anymore. You only live once and you're only young for so long. Take advantage of it.
